Case Study
As part of the expansive Transpennine Rail Upgrade between Leeds and Manchester, Select Modular delivered a significant contribution with the completion of one of its largest modular buildings to date. This milestone project involved the delivery and installation of over 350 modular units, emphasising Select’s capacity to undertake large-scale, innovative construction projects. The modular building stands as a testament to Select’s commitment to modern, inclusive, and well-being-focused design principles.
Project Development Phases
The construction was completed in three key stages to ensure precision and adherence to project requirements:
Stage 1: Design and Manufacturing
The project was designed and manufactured at Select’s advanced facility in Wincham. The building was engineered to meet rigorous standards, including full JCOP 10.2 compliance, and incorporated specialised wind-loading design to ensure long-term stability.Stage 2: Modular Installation and Assembly
The modular units were efficiently transported and assembled on-site, showcasing Select’s expertise in rapid deployment. The installation process was streamlined to minimise disruption while maintaining stringent safety standards.Stage 3: Fit Out and Commissioning
After assembly, the building underwent a comprehensive fit-out and commissioning phase to guarantee functionality and compliance with all relevant building codes. This ensured the facility was operationally ready and tailored to meet the needs of the workforce.
Key Features and Benefits
Accessibility and Compliance
The building is fully DDA compliant, featuring step-free access on the ground floor, an accessible lift to the upper levels, and fully equipped accessible toilet and shower facilities. These elements underscore Select’s dedication to inclusivity and equal access for all staff members.Safety and Mobility

A standout feature of the project is the well-being suite—a dedicated space to support the mental and physical health of employees. This area reflects Select’s forward-thinking approach to workplace design, prioritizing staff welfare.Unique Viewing Gallery
The building also boasts a viewing gallery that overlooks the Huddersfield Rail Platforms, offering staff a unique perspective of the site.
