Select Plant Hire has purchased the UK’s first Liebherr LRB 23 combined piling and drilling rigs as it continues its investment in high-performing, greener construction plant and equipment.
While lightweight and compact, the combined piling and drilling rigs provide high powered performance, making them ideal for all construction sites.
The machines’ 600kw engines conform to the industry’s highest engine compliance grade - stage five; a standard that controls the emissions of off-road machinery.
The new rigs were immediately put to work on a major London project by Expanded; Select’s sibling business. Expanded’s Geotechnical Business Unit Leader John Chick spoke about their performance, saying:
“These models deliver great performance and productivity on site. They offer all-round capability and excellent versatility. The rig performs well for common deep foundation work using various drill types in addition to soil mixing and applications with a vibrator or hydraulic hammer.
“The compact nature of the machines, which can be delivered on one vehicle also means that we can assemble and disassemble them quickly, on site – saving time and contributing to project certainty.”
Alex Warrington, Select Plant Hire’s Business Unit Leader added:
“With the addition of our two new machines, Select has an industry-leading fleet where 80% of our plant is electric. Our investment in high-performing, greener piling rigs continues and all our rigs either contain stage five engines, or for those with stage four engines, we have plans in place to upgrade them by the end of the year.
“Working with our partners, including Liebherr, we are delighted to bring energy-efficient, high performing modern technology to market, supporting our customers as they deliver vital buildings and infrastructure across the UK. We continue to make investments in battery and electric technology across our major specialist plant and cranes, as we play our role in moving the industry towards net zero.”
