Associated Risks
Risks associated with the use of these products, but not limited to:
Falling from height - gaining access into the cab, re-fuelling, and access for maintenance and inspections
Falls / overturning into excavations or due to uneven/poor ground conditions (Use stop blocks to prevent)
High risk of overturning at speed and on inclines (refer to manufacturer’s recommendations)
Effect of weather on visibility and working/traffic surfaces
Risk of crushing while reversing and during tipping
Pedestrians or workforce in operational exclusion zone - A Plant marshaller should be provided in a safe position to direct equipment and pedestrian movements.
Public interface – working alongside pedestrians/ vehicles
Wet materials / clay are prone to stick and cause instability during tipping
The buckets on side tipping dumpers can protrude significantly when turned to the side, creating a hazard to pedestrians
Fire – Necessity of specific firefighting measures to consider fuel/power source
Limitations
Limitations of equipment use, but not limited to:
Do not use if equipment is, or appears to be damaged - Report faults to the Hire desk or by the Infopoint QR code.
Not to be used if operator does not have correct competency and machine familiarisation, documentation is incomplete or has expired
No entry into exclusion zone unless signalled by the operator
Loads must be struck level with bucket to avoid restricting driver vision
Only carry loads that can be contained within the skip
Do not elevate skip whilst moving
Not to be used for towing operations outside of the dumpers specification (refer to manufacturers manual)
3 way or side-tipping dumper must be 3-way complete left or right or forward only. Avoid diagonal tipping as dumper can lose stability
